Seminar CLOSED SOCIETIES

In the frames of BNFF’s special programme "Closed societies" on the 8th of December at 14:00-18:00 in
Reval Hotel Central conference centre an international seminar will be held.

The seminar (see programme) will draw attention to the deepening authoritarian tendencies in Russia, and assessing the chances for democracy of Russia’s neighbours. Is Russia a basket case when it comes to democracy? Do the countries in the Russian sphere of interest have any hope of establishing democratic societies?

These topics will be discussed by the researcher of Moscow Carnegie Institute Sam Greene, coordinator of Belarus citizens’ initiative "Third Way" Pavel Marozau, head of Aserbaijan women’s political cultural centre Mehriban Vezir and Mihai Poiata, a columnist and vice president of the filmmakers union from Moldova.
The list of lecturers will be updated.

Working languages of the seminar will be Estonian, English and Russian with simultaneous translation provided.

The seminar is with free entrance, registration until 5 December at http://www.oef.org.ee/registreerumine/

The special programme is supported by the Open Estonia Foundation.
